Outreach

Outreach is an important part of our Christian witness. There are several opportunities throughout the year for St. John's members and friends to engage in meaningful outreach activities that build the parish community as well as offer assistance to deserving people.

Along with more than a dozen outreach services that the St. John's annual budget supports financially, St. John's members work together - hands on - to support local ministries: packing groceries for the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Food Pantry; gardening and weeding with the Friends of the Reservoir; cooking, baking and delivering meals to Open Arms Men's Shelter; and collecting toys, vitamins and clothing for Paul's House for Children and Families in the Bronx.

Additionally, St. John's parishioners regularly commit to two major annual projects: the Beyond Our Walls project and the Midnight Run.

  • Beyond Our Walls: One spring Saturday, usually the first Saturday of May, parishioners work together to help repair the home of a neighbor in need. This is a day-long task which involves everything from cleaning and painting to gardening. Professional volunteers work with us to assist us and advise us – as well as do whatever plumbing and electrical work is necessary.
  • Midnight Run: On a rotating schedule with other houses of worship in the area, food and clothing donated by parishioners are taken to homeless people in New York City. Teenagers and adults work side-by-side on this project, packing up the items and then distributing them to people who are without shelter on the city streets at night. St. John's organizes two runs each year.

There are a number of ways to serve the greater community at St. John's. Please consult the clergy for more information on how you or your family might get connected with a valuable ministry opportunity.
